Xbox 360 Red Lights Fix - Fix Your Xbox 360 Now
This post will tell you 3 things you can do to help prevent the need for an Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Fix and tell you ways you can prolong the life of your console.
1. Xbox 360 3 Red Lights is caused by the chips taking too much heat and a good way you can stop this from happening is to make sure that your console has enough room to churn out the hot air and you should have it free on all sides so it can get rid of sufficient air!
2. Another way you can stop the Xbox 360 3 Red Lights is by making sure you get the power brick up off the floor as this needs to get air too and if you feel either end when you are running your Xbox 360 you will feel it churning out air. So a good idea to prevent the Xbox 360 3 Red Lights is to put it up on an open cardboard box and this will ensure that it can get enough air and stop the freezing!
3. Lastly you can stop the Xbox 360 3 Red Lights by investing in some cooling options like the Nyko Intercooler that plugs into the back of your console and gives you three fans that churn out the air. NOTE: If you have the Xbox 360 3 Red Lights at the moment the Nyko Intercooler will not help and you will need to fix it yourself first.

Xbox 360 Red Lights Costs Microsoft One Billion
Microsoft is taking a $1bn hit to fix Xbox 360s, conceding residual hardware faults in its games console are causing users frustration and an "unacceptable number of repairs."
The software giant said Thursday it's extending the Xbox 360's current one-year warranty to three years from date of purchase to cover a hardware crash that generates a trio of red warning lights, branded "the red ring of death." Microsoft is also reimbursing customers who've previously paid for repairs.
Additionally, Microsoft admitted the Xbox 360 has failed to hit its planned target of 12 million units sold by the end of June - chief financial office Chris Liddell said 11.6 million devices had sold since the November 2005 launch. The 12 million number had already been cut in January from between 13 million and 15 million.
The news came as Microsoft also passed its self-imposed deadline for its latest consumer venture, the Zune music player. Microsoft's lack of formal announcement suggests it failed in its target of one million Zunes sold by the end of June - the close of Microsoft's fiscal year.
Microsoft has taken increasing flack on the Xbox 360, not simply because the hardware is copping out at such a high frequency, but also for poor Microsoft customer service.
Some 30 per cent of Xbox 360's are estimated to overheat heat and fail, with one man surely scooping an award for endurance and loyalty having owned a total of eight units that bombed. Until now, customers outside their warranty have been encouraged to call a special telephone repair line where they've been charged $129 to fix the $300 - 400 machines. Those reluctant to spring for the cash have been offered a number of DIY fixes, such as those here and here.
After a year and a half of mounting complaints, Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's entertainment and devices division, downplayed the timing of today's news saying: "This is just one of those things that happens when it happens. We reached our conclusion early this week and because it's a financially meaningful issue we had to announce it immediately."
Microsoft will absorb the Xbox 360 costs, estimated at between $1.05bn and $1.15bn, in the fourth quarter that just closed. Microsoft is due to present the full quarterly and annual results later this month.

My Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Fix
Well firstly the main reason that people find themselves needing an Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Fix in the first place is normally because of overheating. As the Xbox does give out alot of heat and if you think it has the same power as a high end gaming PC so it really is no suprise that the motherboard burns itself out from all the number crunching!
Another reason you might find yourself needing an Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Fix is because of the power brick and this needs to release heat too. So if you find that you are getting your games freezing then try and lift the power brick up off the floor as this can help displace more heat and prevent the need for an Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Fix in the long run!
Yet another reason you may find yourself needing an Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Fix is because of the GPU (General Processing Unit) and this is a more complex problem and that is why it comes up with general hardware failure!
However for a complete Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Fix with full pictures that will help you remedy this problem in under an hour and be playing your favourite games again click the link below:

The main thing to remember is that Microsoft do offer free repair if your xbox is still in warranty and if you are searching for an Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Fix then it is worth bearing in mind.
The only problem with the Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Fix that Microsoft offer is that it can take 4-6 weeks to get your console back at the moment due to all the repairs that they are having to do at the moment.
The good news is that you can do the Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Fix youself at home if you find yourself a good guide that will show you how to get rid of this problem that mostly is due to the 360 overheating!

All it is is the new Halo 3 Xboes have extra cooling heatsinks within so it looks like Microsoft are addressing the problem by changing the design of their console.
However if you are suffering from the 3 red lights and are looking for a real Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Fix then you still have to wait up to 6 weeks if you send it back to Microsoft! I have also been recieving questions about the Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Fix guide and what tools you need to be able to carry out the fix.
Well I am happy to say that the fix can be done with just a normal screwdriver set and even if you do not have one of them you can carry out the fix without opening up the console!

Xbox 360 >> Xbox 360 Error Codes
Xbox 360 Error Codes I've been asked to elaborate on the errors codes some of you guys may be getting

You will be able to determine the difference between the 3 flashing lights and the error code lights by judging the rate in which they flash.
Here is how you can interpret the LEDs to get the code number:
- All four lights flashing = 0
- One light flashing = 1
- Two Lights flashing = 2
- Three Lights flashing = 3
Possible Faults
0001 power supply problem
0002 power supply problem
0010 over heating
0011 over heating
0012 over heating
0013 over heating
0020 (Not yet known, possibly overheating)
0022 GPU Error / GPU Overheating
0102 unknown error - littereally means the console does not know what is wrong. possibly a short or cold solder joint somewhere (2 reports of people repairing this, one was removing moisture build up inside the console, the other used a hot-air rework to reflow the BGA ram chips)
0110 (Unknown)
1022 (Unknown)
THINGS TO TRY
- Try restarting the Xbox 360
- If restarting the console does not fix the problem, follow these steps:
- Turn the console off
- Unplug all the power and AV cables from the Xbox 360
- Unplug the power cord from the main power source
- Firmly reconnect all the cables
- Turn on the console
If these steps do not resolve the behavior, turn the console off, remove the hard drive unit and then turn on the console. If the 3x Red LED error light is no longer displayed, turn the console off, re-attach the hard drive, and then turn on the console.

PREVENTION SUGGESTIONS
To try to prevent this problem, use the following precautions:
- Do not block any openings on the Xbox 360 console
- Do not put the Xbox 360 unit on a bed, on a sofa, or on any soft surface that may block ventilation openings.
- Do not put the Xbox 360 in a confined space, such as a bookcase, a rack, or a cabinet, unless the space is well-ventilated.
- Do not put the Xbox 360 near any heat source, such as a radiator, a heat register, a stove, or an amplifier
- Consider buying a 3rd party cooler such as Pelican brand
DO NOT EVER PUT YOUR CONSOLE IN THE FREEZER OR OUT IN COLD WEATHER
Some people think that doing this might help "fix" a hot console, in fact doing so could cause even bigger problems. Electronic devices like your console are made to function at and around room temperature, extreme cold temperatures can often cause just as many problems as extreme warm temperatures (such as overheating). Also if the console is located in a dramatically cold area while running, the difference in temperature between the hot console and cold air can create condensation which in turn will short out your console making the situation far worse. Condensation will happen more quickly if your console is hot due to the greater difference in temperature. DO NOT DO IT.
If none of the above suggestions work, contact MS customer support get get a support ticket started.

Xbox 360 Repair Service
Is your XBOX 360 freezing on you? Is it giving you RED RINGS around the power button? Can't seem to get it to work at all? Not a problem. We at www.modchipman.com now provide a XBOX 360 Diagnostic/Repair service. For a low price of $10 for a diagnostic, we'll diagnose your system and let you know exactly what is wrong with it. If you choose to get a repair, that $10 will be used towards your repair costs. If you decide that the repair is not worth it, you're only out $10 + shipping. Definitely worth a shot to get your $300+ system working again.
Most common problems with the 360 are the red led rings around the power button. These tend to occur either at startup or during gameplay (system will freeze, then when restarting, you will get flashing red rings). Normally this can be a variety of problems, but commonly found to be an overheating issue which can be resolved with proper re-soldering and re-application of thermal paste. This tends to cost $99 to fix. If you are experiencing this type of problem, most likely our thermal paste/re-soldering service will fix your problem. Normally MS will charge $150 for this repair.
Please include your XBOX 360 system and your POWER BRICK. If you've opened your 360, please let us know if you've attempted any fixes yourself prior to us diagnosing the system. Please also be as detailed as possible with the symptoms you've experienced and the situations you experienced them in (i.e. I was playing halo 2 and it played for 15 minutes and then froze, when restarting, it gave flashing red lights).
POSSIBLE CAUSES TO YOUR 3 RED LIGHTS
Most people experience the 3 red lights and an error code of overheating. This overheating of the 360 can be caused by quite a few things;
-
bad power brick (giving too much power to your system)
-
bad placement of system (with no ventilation causing the air inside to not flow well)
-
bad motherboard component manufacturing/application (cold solder joints, loose bga, etc)
-
bad quality thermal paste used on the heatsinks
Bad power supplies have been known to cause this issue quite often. Unfortunately if you are at the point of the 3 red lights, most likely the bad power supply has already done its damage. If you are identified as having a bad power supply, we can not assure that your system will run for a long time with this power supply. What we suggest is purchasing a new power supply from a reputable source (walmart sells an ANTEC version of the power supply). This will insure that the repairs done by us will last a long time.
WHAT WE DO
The probability that a system experiencing all these problems getting repaired successfully is somewhat low. If it's one or two of those problems, the chances of the system lasting quite a long time is very good. The repairs we do are heat/time sensitive and we attempt to repair them and test them for at least 24-48 hours running games/movies. After this time if the system has not demonstrated any heating issues or freezing, we will consider the repair successful.
REPAIRS WILL TAKE 4-6 WEEKS ON AVERAGE
For overheating repair, we do quite a few operations to the system. We'll redo the thermal paste existing on the cpu/gpu with great quality Arctic Silver 5 (AC5) thermal paste for optimum efficiency in heat transfer. We will redo any loose/cold solder points that have affected the conductivity or basic operation of the processors or memory chips. Essentially, your system gets the following
- REFLOW ON THE MOTHERBOARD
- XCLAMP FOR GPU/CPU
these two heavy duty repairs will eliminate 95% of the problems with XBOX 360 overheating error codes.
WARRANTY
The overheating repair comes with a 30 day warranty. This applies to the repairs done by modchipman.com. If your system gets the 3 red lights and the error code is the same as before, modchipman will cover the warranty work on your system.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO WHEN YOU GET IT BACK
The repair that we do is a very time and heat sensitive repair. The system needs quite a bit of attention for the first few weeks. What YOU can do once you receive the system back is make sure it has proper ventilation, has a fully functional power brick and that the system is sitting UPRIGHT. We've noticed that upright systems tend to cool much better than ones sitting horizontally. These precautions can make your system last for quite a long time.
Please do not send us systems which have been flashed improperly or have been tampered with with modchips. We are providing this repair/diagnostic service for systems that are having documented problems through www.microsoft.com. Any systems that are sent to us for flash repair or modchip install repair will be returned without diagnostics. We have a "let modchipman mod your 360" service for modchip installs, please use that service instead of doing any mods on your own.

XB360 Repair and Service
The Xbox 360 is one of the the most powerful game consoles on the market today. With three symmetrical CPU cores running at 3.2 GHz each, and unparalelled multithreading capabilities, the Xbox 360 has horsepower to spare. Microsoft has lept out of the next generation gate, and is trying to close the lead SONY has on them in the console market from the last generation. With amazing hi definition video capabilities and stunning audio, I have seen the next generation of video games, and I like what I see. I haven't been this impressed since I saw a nearly arcade perfect Donkey Kong running on a ColecoVision kiosk display in a Toy's 'R' Us in 1982.OSG can repair Xbox 360 systems, suffering from many different failures, DVDrom drive issues, heat issues, "Unreadable Disc" failures and more. OSG has the necessary replacement parts for the repair of your Xbox 360. Estimates are free* and no obligation. Repairs and replacement options are always cheaper than replacing with a new system. If the estimate is approved, and repairs are performed, repairs come with a 90 day warranty, matching the standard Microsoft warranty time frame. We are so confident in the quality of the Xbox 360 repair work OSG can perform, that we're willing to give a warranty that is second to none.
